TradingHow an order happens

Nothing skips
the chain.

Momento Systems trades event contracts on NBA games, and on college basketball once its season tips off in November, on Kalshi, a CFTC-regulated exchange. A contract pays $1 if its outcome happens and $0 if it does not. Every trade is automated and every trade goes through the same six steps, in the same order.

  1. 01 Strategy proposes. Turns market and game state into an intent: a contract, a side, a limit. It cannot send anything to the exchange.
  2. 02 Risk approves. Checks the intent against capital, open exposure, per-position limits and the state of the feeds. A missing check is a rejection.
  3. 03 Execution executes. Places, follows and cancels orders for approved intents only, and records every acknowledgement and fill.
  4. 04 Position tracker reconciles. Rebuilds positions from exchange fills and compares them with what Execution believes. Differences are surfaced, never smoothed over.
  5. 05 P&L calculates. Marks positions and books realised results from settlements, net of exchange fees.
  6. 06 Dashboard observes. Shows all of it. It has no write path into any of the layers above.

DisclosureWhat we publish

Outcomes,
not signals.

Edges in young markets are small and decay when they are copied. We publish results in full: weekly returns, drawdowns, the preseason and every MACHINE forecast. We do not publish entry rules, timing, prices or position sizes.
